Quad Biking
There are mainly two types of quad bikes, or all terrain vehicles (ATV's) - racing and utility. Because of motorised sport and television those mud spraying quads are well known. But in reality more that 75% of all quads sold in South Africa are utility quads. These are the workhorses that we welcome (if you want to bring your own quad) and use to make nature more accessible.
Our mission is conservation through utilization and we use quads to explore nature. On a quad you can feel and smell much more than from inside a vehicle. Tread Lightly.
There is no need for speed, because you are there already! We run the tyres at low pressure to give a bigger footprint and better grip to eliminate wheel spin. With the narrow wheelbase (when compared to a 4x4) we do not have to disturb much of nature when building a trail - you can go around a rock in stead of moving it etc.
With the soft tyres the pressure on the ground is also very low. With a 100Kg rider it is approximately 0.23Kg/cm² - compared to 0.6Kg/cm² for an average man walking and 1.3 Kg/cm² for a family car. We believe that it is more about nature than about the ride - therefore we often get off the quads and walk to viewpoints and scenic spots. We are also very strict to keep all quads on the trail.
