Keep your foot on the Rock
Keep your foot on the Rock and your name on the Roll
We believe in giving back to the community and there is no better way than to do that, than starting with the children. In the winter of 2009 we started the Rock and Roll club with the local children. The idea is to give the children a better opportunity in life. They must know that they can do better, that nothing can keep them back if forward is the way they want to go. The first and most important is teaching them to speak English. I wanted to say proper English, but shame, they can only learn from us, and being Afrikaans, we can only try. The kids come together in the afternoon after school and they do beadwork and other crafts, which they sell at reception. Every child has something specific they are saving for, the list follow below. They have to work for what they want, and while working, we only speak English. They create a lot of new words but in the process they also bring lots of joy and laughter.
At the end of 2009 a couple came to Matroosberg, just to see what we have to offer...they ended up staying with us for 2 nights...they met our local children, and so they became part of our lives. Through them we got a sponsership to take our children to Ratanga Juntion...something they thought was only in America. Our local children also inspired the children from neigbouring farms and we held a fun day for all 150 of them. If you want to make any contribution to one of the childrens dreams, you are more than welcome to contact the Matroosberg office. We also want to thank Johan and Cellest Geldenhuis, for all the contributions they make to the children and adults, not only from Matroosberg, but everyone in our community - God bless you!
